
Jim Walters
CEO & President
Jim Walters has been in Senior Management positions in the building services industry for 17 years and has played a key role in the development and retention of long-term customer relations both on the Mainland and in Hawaii. Mr. Walters also enjoys dedicating his time and energy to volunteer work and has served on numerous boards and committees throughout his career, including BOMA, IFMA and the Cancer Research Center for the University of Hawaii. Jim is currently on the Board of Directors for Palama Settlement and the Friends of Hawaii Charities. Jim has also chaired and sponsored many community events and golf tournaments, including the Sony Open of Hawaii and the Turtle Bay Championship and LPGA events.
Karl Fujii
Executive Vice President
Karl Fujii joined HBM in 1998 to become the Comptroller and Director of Business Development. Mr. Fujii is a Certified Public Accountant with previous management positions with PricewaterhouseCoopers specializing in hospitality, construction and higher education industries. Karl currently serves as an Executive Board member and Immediate Past President for the University of Hawaii Alumni Association and is a member of the Hawaii Society of CPA's & American Institute of CPA's. Other board memberships include the University of Hawaii Foundation, Athletic Advisory Board, Waikiki Community Center, Waikiki Improvement Association and Financial Executives International.
Jarrett Walters
Executive Director of Building Services
Mr. Walters joined Hawaiian Building Maintenance in 2006 as director of Retail Operations. Prior to joining the company, he served as district manager for Mobile Instrument Service and Repair, where he was responsible for sales and repairs for surgical instruments and supplies. He is currently responsible for overseeing and managing operations staff, financial budgets, and customer contracts while researching and implementing new products and technologies. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Princeton University and is a graduate of Hawaii Baptist Academy.
Jim Birchfield
Executive Director of Engineering Services
Mr. Birchfield joined Hawaiian Building Maintenance in 1998 as a building Chief Engineer and is currently responsible for overseeing and managing various projects as well serving as the Chief Engineer at Pacific Guardian Center, one of downtown Honolulu’s premier office complex. Mr. Birchfield bring more than 30 years of management and engineering experience to our customers as he began his career as an enlisted machinist in the U. S. Navy. He graduated from the U.S. Navy’s Engineering Department School, and worked on ships as chief engineer overseeing 300 technical specialists; and Officer in Charge of a fleet training team responsible for providing engineering support to the Pacific Fleet in Pearl Harbor. In addition, he served in the Asia Pacific, Middle Pacific, Middle East, and in Vietnam and the Persian Gulf theaters, involved in high-risk military combat and fleet operations.
Thomas Chong
Executive Director of Contracting Services
Mr. Chong joined HBM in 2001 and was responsible for starting the HVAC/R department which later became the Contracting Services department. He is responsible for overseeing construction projects and the repair and service of HVAC/R equipment. Thomas currently holds electrical journeyman licenses and contractor licenses (B, C-2, C-13, C-40 and C-52). Prior to working for HBM, Thomas brings over ten years of valuable experience as a Head Mechanic for an air conditioning company. Thomas received an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts from Honolulu Community College in 1993. He is the company’s primary responsible managing employee for the HVAC/R division. He is currently a member of the Project Management Institute and the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers.
